ALIVE SURF SCHOOL
Alive Surf School is the longest running purpose built surf school in Northern Ireland. Based in Portrush they operate for 12 months each year. All instructors are fully qualified beach lifeguards, surf coach instructors and are all past or present members of the Irish Surf team They have undergone Police clearance checks as well as passing an additional child protection course.
Each lesson lasts for 2 hours and comprises of a warm-up, an explanation of all the equipment involved and the surf lesson itself. Students also learn about rip currents, tides and other beach hazards - all under the close supervision of the qualified lifeguards. They provide fresh water, sun cream and homemade soup on colder days.
This will qualify for your PHYSICAL section of your award. Anyone interested should contact Ricky on 07935 952532 or email firstname.lastname@example.org or check out the website at www.alivesurfschool.com.
The Open Award Unit is staffed by volunteers - and we always need more!
Do you have a skill you could offer, or do you want to learn a new skill yourself whilst working with young people. Perhaps you hold the Award yourself and want to give something back? then we want to hear from you!
Here's how it works.....
Contact us, by email, letter or phone and arrange to meet us for a chat. That chat will be a two way discussion - where we get to know you, what you do and what you want to offer the Award in Coleraine. But just as important - its your chance to get to know us, ask questions and see first hand what we do.
Although some volunteers offer time every week, the majority of our leaders offer assistance for only a few days, or even just a few hours per year. Its totally up to you, but everything is useful.
All of our leaders have to complete a criminal record check prior to starting work with young people.
